General Manager

We are pleased to appoint Tom Vermerris as General Manager in Amsterdam. Tom has been working with PREMIER SUITES since February 2019.

Tom has worked previously in Dublin, Antwerp and Rotterdam within the hospitality industry with a strong F&B background, evolving into hotel operations and later hotel management. Tom joined hospitality for the love of leaving guests with a memorable experience that exceeds their expectations.

“I love Amsterdam! Our country capital has so many historic places to enjoy, like the small streets, the canals and the numerous squares. Along the small antique shops and café’s that originate from decades ago you can find new businesses displaying daring designs and trendy bars. Amsterdam has a large history but with its new business district “the Zuidas” where PREMIER SUITES PLUS Amsterdam resides, the city have evolved to a world city where business guests, leisure guests and (inter)national students coexist.”

The Building

Hourglass, so called because of the distictive hourglass shape of the new building was developed by the Maarsen Group who commissioned architecture firm Dam & Partners with the design and Hurks with the construction.

Along with PREMIER SUITES PLUS the building includes 21,000 m2 of office space of which 15,500 m2 will be occupied by the law firm Loyens & Loeff (among other tenants). There will also be 700 m2 of retail and catering space, bicycle storage and 148 car parking spaces.

The design of the building has been inspired by the work of Romanian sculptor, Constantin Brancuși and shaped – as the name suggests – like an hourglass.

A large glass entrance hall has been constructed on Parnassusweg. The spacious lobby is an impressive, light filled space and sets the tone for the rest of this contemporary building which boasts huge floor to ceiling glazed walls, commanding spectacular views across the river and the city.

The light stone facade and the warm use of materials give HourGlass a classic and international vibe. The property is expected to become one of the most iconic buildings in Amsterdam due to its impressive shape, materials used and imaginative architecture.
