There is no doubt that in any business, however large or small, the well quoted saying ‘our people are our greatest asset’ remains true. In these interesting economic times however the spotlight on payroll constantly focuses our minds on the cost of our greatest asset. Now, more than ever before, it is important that when it comes to the management of our greatest assets, the basic foundations have to be right.

While pressure increases on senior managers and operators to reduce labour costs and improve productivity it can become very difficult to keep on top of the day to day activities that ensure that the human resource function is fulfilled. This can lead to gaps in administration or lack of coherent policies and procedures, which in turn can expose an organisation to costly litigation or insurance claims.

With this in mind PREM Group’s experienced and CIPD qualified human resource department in Ireland have developed a series of support services available to assist operators in managing the human resource function in small to medium sized businesses based in the Republic of Ireland.

General Services

Our approach here is simple – HR systems should not be complicated. Once the foundations are established the day to day work required should be minimal.

An audit of employee files to establish level of administrative work required eg: seeking recruitment histories, employment contracts, variations to terms and conditions of employment, job descriptions, performance reviews, etc.

A review of pay rates to ensure compliance with minimum wage & JLC (where appropriate)

A training needs analysis establishing if there are gaps to be filled in order to ensure compliance with legislative training requirements and to reduce risk of health & safety related insurance claims.

A review of standard documents and written company policy eg: handbooks, contract templates, disciplinary, grievance procedures, use of company equipment etc

A review of policy relating to records of attendance including adherence to Organisation of Working Time Act 1997.
